Lake Como has wonderful towns that you can visit by hopping on and off the ferry. We stayed at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo which is in the town of Tremezzo on the lake – the hotel building is 107 years old with old historic charm and modern amenities with one pool in the lake itself. The property is gorgeous with 3 other pools, one inside and 2 more in the gardens in the back of the hotel. The terrace overlooking the lake is a great setting to start your morning, as you sip on a cappuccino while having breakfast. We drove here from the Barolo wine region and drove back to Milan for one day of shopping before heading back to New York. Arrivederci to Italy until the next time!
Cantine Marchesi Di Barolo tour
The tour at the Marchesi vineyard started with us parking alongside the vines that were heavy with ripe grapes and the harvest was in full swing with truckloads of grapes being loaded. The tour of the cellars was amazing ending with an exquisite lunch. The lunch set in a beautifully decorated room that evoked an era of old luxury, was an awesome experience not to be missed – each course was beautifully paired with a wine – freshly prepared carrot mousse, fresh pasta, juicy and tender lamb along with the best Barolos. All this ending with cheese and dessert – what a treat! The picture do not do justice to the actual experience.
Barolo Wine Country – stayed at the Il Boscareto Resort and Spa – a beautiful property overlooking the vineyard and the valley. In the distance was Serralunga D’ Alba with the castle at the highest point there. After refreshing drinks on the terrace we headed out to the neighboring town of Monforte to have dinner at Giardino De Fellini where the dining experience was a personalized experience with the chef recommending the dishes that he wanted us to taste.
the next night, we had an amazing dinner at the restaurant in Il Boscareto Resort and Spa - it is a Michelin star restaurant and the food was absolutely delicious. the pictures tell the story -photos are shown here.
