Day 5 - Ouarzazate

We left Marrakech after breakfast for our journey over the Atlas Mountains via Tichka Pass to reach Ouarzazate. On the way the scenery was gorgeous and we spotted several Berbere villages along the way. We stopped for lunch at Ait Ben-Haddou, a small town in the middle of the open landscape where most of the buildings are sand colored – this is where many movies have been filmed. In the afternoon we took a tour of the Atlas Film Studios and we stayed overnight in Ouarzazate.

Day 6 - Merzouga

We complete our journey to Merzouga, stopping to see the Dades Gorges along the way. We stayed overnight in a private Riad which was steps away from the sand dunes. We had the entire house all to ourselves and had a nice dinner after which we spent time outside looking at the stars. The house had a beautiful porch and a swing where we could spend hours just looking at the sand dunes and also the sunset.

Day 7 – Sahara Desert

We went on an excursion through the Sahara Desert in the morning and for camel ride in the afternoon. The camels stopped at the top of sand dune so that we could watch the brilliant sunset – the sand colors turned many shaded of red and orange and it was quite a sight. The trek took us to our private luxury camp, where we spent the night after enjoying a nice dinner followed by singing and entertainment by the campfire.

Day 8 - Fes

We left the desert camp in the morning to begin our journey north stopping along the way in many beautiful small towns such as Midelt, Zaida, Ifrane, and to take in the stunning scenery across the Atlas Mountains. We arrived in Fes in the evening where we were staying at Riad Fes.

We enjoyed a guided tour of Fes, visiting the Royal Palace, strolling through the mellah, and touring the old medina, stopping at artisan workshops such as the silk weavers and the famous Fes tannery. Only buy them from the official ceramics place as they are authentic – anything else in the medina could be fakes.
